Who is Samayavajra?

Samayavajra is a Tantric Buddha from the mandala of the Guhyasamaja tantra. His name literally means “Indestructible Close Bond” and his practice is one of the most powerful purifications for broken samaya and degenerated commitments, especially those arising from transgressions created by disciples with their spiritual teachers. This important purification practice is particularly emphasised within the Gelug tradition.

What is Alamkara?

The Abhisamayalamkara or Ornament of Clear Realisation is a major Buddhist treatise that was transmitted directly from Maitreya Buddha to the Indian pandit Asanga in Tushita Heaven. It is a comprehensive commentary on the hidden meaning of the Prajnaparamita Sutras, and describes the entire path of the Bodhisattva warrior, from the generation of bodhicitta to the attainment of perfect omniscience.

In the Tibetan tradition, this sutra is identified as one of the Five Treatises of Maitreya, and is studied in all Tibetan Buddhist lineages. Within the Gelug school, it is one of five principal works studied as part of the geshe curriculum.
