Increase peace, harmony, healing and success with a recitation ceremony of the Golden Light Sutra. Buddha encouraged anyone experiencing difficulties to recite this sutra, especially if we suffer from ill health, fear, disharmony, abuse, or a lack of material resources.
Reciting this sutra purifies the karma that causes these sufferings, and creates wellbeing and happiness in its place. Even more, the merit generated by reciting this sutra helps prevent environmental disasters, protects the land and its citizens, averts war, and supports the creation of world peace.
If you are attending this puja, you can also offer kuyong (a token monetary offering) to the Sangha who will be conducting the puja.
What is the Golden Light Sutra?
The Sutra of Golden Light is named after one of the stories recounted in the sutra — the tale of the Bodhisattva Ruchiraketu. In his dream, Bodhisattva Ruchiraketu saw a golden drum emanating golden light which filled the ten directions. The light symbolised the Dharma taught by Buddha Shakyamuni and its ability to lead sentient beings to enlightenment.
The Golden Light Sutra is widespread within all Mahayana schools of Buddhism due to its potency to aid sentient beings, generate merit, purify karma and because it contains all the major elements of the Buddhist path towards enlightenment.
