If you live far from Petaling Jaya, but like reading His Eminence Tsem Tulku Rinpoche’s books very much…well, no worries! You still can get Kechara Media & Publications (KMP) books near Petaling Street, Ara Damansara and Amcorp Mall! KMP’s books, especially our Chinese titles, are now available at several small but very busy independent bookstores: Manjushri Bookstore, White House, Dharmic Bliss, Sukhi Hotu and EU-EE…so go grab yourself a copy! Before you leave though, you might want to check out our Chinese Editor Kok Yek Yee’s tour of the independent bookstores…
A word from Yek Yee…
When I have the time, I myself like hanging out at the Klang Valley’s small bookstores, some of which were established more than 30 years ago! Their small cosy spaces means I get to spend personal time with their owners, chatting about the history of the bookstore and about the books themselves. It fascinates me that one person can set up and staff the bookstore every day for so many years – I want to know what kind of dedication to literature and Dharma it takes for someone to do something like that. Speaking to them, I have found out that their dream in life is to share knowledge, stories and the Dharma with their customers, many of whom have become their good friends.
Manjushri Bookstore
Not just a two-storey bookshop, this stalwart of the Dharma bookstore scene also sells Buddhist items. Located on Petaling Street, the owner Mr Yong Ah Loy and his wife have managed this shop at the heart of the city for nearly two decades. If you happen to pass by Petaling Street, make a trip to Wisma Wai Kuan and discover Manjushri Bookstore there, where friendly Mr Yong will welcome you with open arms.

Our Tsongkhapa and Setrap box sets hit the shelves!
White House Book Shop
Established over 25 years ago, White House is the bookstore closest to the main area of Petaling Street. The owner Mr Wong is a well-known Chinese medical doctor in the area. Visitors to the bookstore will often find Mr Wong reading, a past time which he enjoys very much and has turned into his livelihood. There is space in the bookshop for customers to sit and read; in today’s materialistic society, it is comforting to know that someone cares more for your spirituality than about making money.
Dharmic Bliss
Visitors to Dharmic Bliss will be warmly greeted by the motherly owner Madam Seow, who loves the Dharma and loves KMP books! At her shop in Amcorp Mall, Madam Seow always gives prime display areas to KMP, making it easy for her customers to find our publications. Unlike many other stores, Madam Seow also sells a lot of jewellery in her shop, and has begun introducing Kechara Discovery‘s beautiful pendants to her friends and customers.
Madam Seow always tells me that whatever she does to spread the Dharma is not enough, and she hopes she can do more…hence her enthusiasm in supporting Kechara! KMP’s Chinese titles, for example Nothing Changes, While I Still Can and If Not Now, When? can all be found here…so do drop by and lend your support!
Sukhi Hotu Bookstore
Passionate about the Dharma and spreading the Dharma, the Sukhi Hotu bookstore in Ara Damansara stocks mainly English-language Dharma books. However, Aaron Lee (the young man who runs this bookstore) really believes in true Dharma, and so very kindly displays KMP’s Chinese titles on his shelves.
EU-EE Bookstore
The owner of EU-EE, Mr Song, is the kind of person we would all like to have as our uncle. This friendly, fatherly gentleman is understandably proud of his store…it has been around for 60 years! Mr Song is very keen on using EU-EE, also located on Petaling Street, to support local publishers. Mr Song also says he is moved by the youth of today who have ambitions in their lives, but choose to give up their materialistic attachments to do something that benefits others. It is for these reasons Mr Song chose to display KMP’s books onto his shelves.
And thus concludes our update of the independent bookstores! The idea to bring KMP’s publications into these havens of literature came from our spiritual guide His Eminence Tsem Tulku Rinpoche. Rinpoche is extremely kind in wanting to support these small independent bookstores in order to make Dharma grow fast on different levels. So support our Guru’s vision, these sincere bookstore owners and of course KMP, by stopping by to pick up one of our publications!
