A lay disciple who holds all 5 lay vows is also known as Genyen in Tibetan\, literally meaning “pursuer of virtue.” \nThe Novice Vows\nThe Five Precepts are part of the wider set of Pratimoksha (Self-Liberation) Vows that are practised in Buddhism. The Pratimoksha vows comprise mainly of the vows of monastic discipline which descended directly from Buddha Shakyamuni. \n\nNovice monks and nuns take 36 vows. They are known as Getsul (monk) or Getsulma (nun) in Tibetan and Sramanera (monk) or Sramenerika (nun) in Sanskrit.\nA fully-ordained monk (bhikshu or gelong) holds 253 vows while a fully-ordained nun (bhikshuni or gelongma) holds 364 vows within our ordination tradition.\n\nAll these vows are contained in the Vinaya\, the collection of Buddha’s teachings on monastic discipline. \nBenefits of Taking Vows\nThe taking and upholding of vows is an essential Buddhist practice. It instils spiritual discipline which helps you develop mindfulness of how you conduct yourself on a daily basis. \nIn addition\, every day that you uphold your vows\, you collect merits and purify negative karma. This helps you progress on your spiritual path through transformation of the mind. \nBy attending this teaching\, you will not only gain knowledge but receive the seeds or karmic causes to take the vows and hold them well in the future. \nWho can attend\n\nThe teaching is open to all Kechara Members and Kechara Friends who are interested to learn more about Buddhist vows.\nYou are encouraged to attend if you aspire to take the upasaka or novice vows in the future.\nThe teaching is compulsory if you wish to receive the upasaka vows from H.E. Kensur Rinpoche on Oct 8.\n\nAbout H.E. Kensur Rinpoche Lobsang Phende\nHis Eminence Kensur Rinpoche Lobsang Phende studied at the feet of some of the greatest lineage masters of our tradition — H.H. Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche\, H.H. Kyabje Zong Rinpoche and H.E. Kyabje Zemey Rinpoche. He was the lead chanter (umze) of Gaden Shartse Monastery and later became the courageous first abbot of Shar Gaden Monastery. \n  \nAfter retiring from this esteemed position\, Kensur Rinpoche has visited Kechara on multiple occasions\, the first being in 2017 at the request of H.E. Tsem Rinpoche.

SUMMARY:Rabney ChenmoStupa Consecration Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:On September 4\, 2019\, our beloved spiritual teacher and founder\, His Eminence the 25th Tsem Rinpoche\, entered clear light. Almost three years later\, after overcoming tremendous obstacles\, we have finally completed the second of two Relic Stupas that were advised by Rinpoche himself prior to his parinirvana. \nThe indoor Relic Stupa was completed in September 2020\, just in time for Rinpoche’s first parinirvana anniversary. However\, it took two more years to complete the outdoor Relic Stupa due to complications that arose directly from the pandemic. It is believed that such obstacles are a manifestation of our negative karma and broken commitments. \nNevertheless\, the patience\, hard work and fortitude of all who were involved in the project paid off. Tremendous amounts of negative karma\, obscurations and broken commitments were purified\, and great merits were accumulated in the process of creating our lama’s stupa. \nA large auspicious halo appeared around the sun on July 9\, 2022 as we started to install the golden ornaments on the Relic Stupa.\nThe completion of the two stupas has tremendous spiritual significance because it means that the prerequisites for finding Rinpoche’s incarnation have been fulfilled\, and that the actual search for Rinpoche’s incarnation can officially begin from hereon. \nThe stupas will also have a great impact on the future success of Kechara in benefiting others and proliferating the teachings\, as they are a powerful source of Rinpoche’s blessings along with the blessings of our lineage masters. \nHigh lamas\, senior monks and monastic representatives have been specially invited to conduct a Rabney Chenmo ceremony to consecrate the Relic Stupas as well as the Tulku Drakpa Gyaltsen Stupa and the 24 statues of our lama’s previous lives in the Tsem Rinpoche Relic Temple. \nThe ceremony will be performed by visiting Sangha from Shar Gaden\, Serpom\, Phelgyeling and Segyu monasteries\, and led by His Eminence Kensur Rinpoche Jetsun Lobsang Phende and other high lamas\, esteemed geshes and senior monks of our tradition. \nEvent Details\n\nSep 16 – 18\, 2022 (Fri – Sun)\nKechara Forest Retreat\nFree admission.
