From North (Carolina) to South (Malaysia)!

Imagine yourself in a classroom learning about religion in a country you’ve never visited, or ever thought you’d visit. For most people, that would be it; for most people, their education would never leave the classroom.

For Brian Leahy however, a student researching religion in Malaysia, that was not the case. Together with his professor, Prof Hun from Davidson College, North Carolina, Brian travelled to Malaysia to conduct research first-hand. Whilst in Penang, they joined the Kechara Media & Publications book club two weeks ago, where their interest in Tibetan Buddhism led them to sign up for a Kechara Care Mini Tour via Jamie Khoo who was there to give a talk about Snakes, Roosters & Pigs.

It was a sunny Saturday when Jamie and Nicholas Yu brought them to tour Kechara House 1, Kechara House 2, Kechara Soup Kitchen’s current premises, Kechara Media & Publications, the new e-Division, Kechara Discovery and (phew! It’s a long list!) Kechara Saraswati Arts.

Brian was impressed with the organisation, saying that we have quite a lot of young and committed full-time staff working for Dharma (more than 95!). He also commented that the 13 departments cater for individual propensities, abilities, skills and practices. Both Brian and his professor felt that as a Buddhist organisation in Malaysia, we were quite modern and unique in reaching out to people with the Dharma.

If you have a friend whom you would like to introduce to Kechara, introduce them to us via our monthly Mini Tours! Held on the first Sunday of every month, you can find out more about them via our website!

At Kechara Saraswati Arts!
