February may be the month of Valentine’s, but the month of May has been a month filled with love and joyous occasions. Starting with Mother’s Day, we celebrated and treated our mothers extra special in gratitude for all that she has done for us. Then came Wesak Day, where we rejoiced in the Buddha’s birth, enlightenment, first teaching and finally Buddha’s passing into paranirvana.

Before the start of the highly-anticipated show, the Kechara presence could already be felt

In celebration of our love for our parents and the Dharma, Kechara House sponsored an afternoon show performed by the Dama Orchestra, called The Moon Speaks for My Heart on 21 May 2011. The 300-strong audience were enthralled by the melodious voices of Tan Soo Suan, Evelyn Toh and Chang Fang Chyi, who serenaded the audience with the legendary Teresa Teng’s famous hits from the 1970s and 1980s. Many members of the audience relived their younger days, singing along to the songs. In fact, so famous is Teresa Teng, and so popular is she across generations that even the Generation Y and Z audience knew all of the words to hits like Tian Mi Mi and of course, Yue Liang Dai Biao Wo De Xin, the song which lent the production its name.

The very talented professional singers gave a wonderful performance, not just with their voices but also with their dance moves, along with a team of energetic dancers and back-up singers singing in perfect harmony. The show was very well-coordinated and composed, set on minimalist stage of stairs and punctuated by the dazzling and colorful dresses of the performers.

The end of the performance was met with rousing applause and presentation of flowers to the main cast, before the afternoon was rounded off with a little speech from the production manager, Mr Pun Kai Loon. Mr Pun thanked Kechara House for their community service, and expressed admiration at the accomplishments of Kechara House. He also thanked Kechara House for bridging the gap between creative arts and religion.
