Not without reason

When we are advised by our Guru to engage in an intense retreat, it is not without a reason. Little may we understand why or wherefore, but it is to our best interest to trust and execute.

Nobody else can purify our past negative karma other than ourselves. With effort and the right method, perhaps we can nullify the effects of our negative past deeds and prevent them from ripening and in the process shore up sufficient merit to receive more dharma, the medicine to our suffering.

Our personal worldly obstacles often stand in the way of our spiritual practice and progress. Thus with the advice of His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche, Kechara House organised the The Setrap Grand Obstacle Removing Retreat which was held over three week-long sessions, in March, April and May. The last leg of the retreat was held between 30 May and 5 June 2011.

Kechara House members and friends gathered at the Kechara Gompa in SunwayMas and the Kechara Southern Jewel Chapel in Johor Bahru to contribute to the collective count of golden drink offering (serkyem), and recitation of Setrap’s mantra and kawang, held in both English and Chinese.

Excitingly, our targets were exceeded and retreatants were all smiles, happy to have spent meaningful time engaging in a beneficial practice. After all, the effect of Setrap’s practice and relying on our Spiritual Guide is obvious.

Kechara House conducts regular Setrap pujas in English every Monday and in Mandarin every Tuesday, both of which are open to the public. Come and experience the benefits for yourself!
