Wesak: A new beginning

5 May 2011 - 2:50am Comments Off

In conjunction with Wesak Day, Kechara House will be holding a puja on 17 May 2011, to mark three momentous events in Buddha’s life – his birthday, enlightenment, and passing into parinirvana.

There will be the presentation of body, speech and mind offerings by the Vice President of Kechara House Henry Ooi to His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche, who will be giving refuge on this day as well as perform the baby baptism.

If anyone has been following Kechara and our activities for some time now, you will realise just how rare an opportunity it is to take refuge with Rinpoche so you do not want to miss out on this opportunity for yourself and your loved ones!

To receive refuge from Rinpoche is to receive Rinpoche’s commitment that he will protect and care for you, and teach you the Dharma until you attain Enlightenment. Likewise, it is the student’s commitment to remain loyal and devoted to their teacher until they receive Enlightenment, and to follow the teacher’s training in mind transformation. Thus taking refuge is one of the most significant steps of a Buddhist practitioner’s spiritual path…and for your children, they will be able to make their own first steps at the baby baptism!

After the ceremonies, Wesak Day puja attendees will have the chance to perform a sacred Lama Chopa prayer, highly auspicious and significant because its essence is the Buddha’s teachings given by Manjushri to Lama Tsongkhapa. The Lama Chopa focuses on guru devotion practice, which is the root of all attainments.

Between 11:30am and 7pm, everyone is welcome to come and make extensive offerings to the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, and accumulate the positive energy needed to progress along the spiritual path. The public will be able to candles, pearls, flowers and khatas to the main altars of Kechara’s gompa. One can only begin to imagine the immeasurable merits accumulated by making offerings on so auspicious a day.
