Kechara Means Holiday Fun

What do you get up to during your holidays? Do you sit on the beach, staring out to the sea? Read book after lacklustre book? (if you’re going to read something, then pick a GOOD book like Call Me Paris or There’s No Way But Up!)

Do you go food hunting, or tread the tourist trail in search of attractions which hundreds of people before you have laid their eyes on?

Why not spend your holiday helping other people who might not be able to afford a holiday themselves?

That’s exactly what our guests from Nepal, Raj Kumar and his wife Sangita, have been doing during their first week in Kuala Lumpur.

In many ways, their visit here is a thank you trip. One of Kathmandu’s most renowned tailors, Raj Kumar has been instrumental in helping Kechara to establish our operations in Nepal. Through his hard work, we were put in touch with many people essential to recreating Kechara’s charm in our Lounge at Boudhanath Stupa.

As they say, behind every successful man is a woman and in this case, things are no different. Raj could never have worked so hard with Kechara, and spent so many late nights with us without the understanding of his wife Sangita.

It has been a non-stop whirlwind of fun for this hardworking couple who have had little leisure time in the past…so little in fact, that when their guide KB took them to watch a movie, they disclosed that it was the first film they had seen together in 15 years!

KB, who is also one of His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche’s personal attendants, has been helping Raj and Sangita take in all that Kechara has to offer. They have been visiting all of the departments, volunteering where they can, sitting in as observers in meetings, and chatting to staff and volunteers to find out what life in Kechara is like. The artist that he is, Raj was particularly happy to visit Kechara Saraswati Arts (KSA), saying that he had missed KSA when he was back in Nepal. And Sangita was so touched by the work of Kechara Soup Kitchen, that she now wishes to start a similar soup kitchen back in Nepal with her friends.

If only all holidays could inspire such good results! If you see Raj and Sangita around and about, be sure to say hello and make them feel welcome…Kechara has plenty of love to go around!

After Miss Nepal straightened her hair, and Mr Nepal was treated to a massage, they went out for dinner with their friends from Kechara Paradise

This giving couple jumps at every opportunity to help others, including going with Liaison Chuah Su Ming to buy Hindi magazines for the Ladrang's Nepalese guards and joining in with Kechara Soup Kitchen's (KSK) rounds

This trip reconnected the couple with their friends in Kechara Saraswati Arts, who accompanied them for a movie...Raj and Sangita's first in 15 years!
