Rinpoche and the Dalai Lama

I was reading His Eminence Tsem Tulku Rinpoche’s biography and saw that amongst his many gurus, one of them is His Holiness the Dalai Lama. I was just wondering – what is the relationship between His Holiness the Dalai Lama and His Eminence Tsem Tulku Rinpoche?

His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche considers His Holiness the Dalai Lama as one of his gurus for a number of reasons. When Rinpoche was a young boy living in the United States, he had the great fortune to receive teachings from His Holiness. Later, in 1987, His Holiness ordained Rinpoche into the sangha by giving him his ordination vows.

After Rinpoche was recognised as a tulku (reincarnated lama) by the Dharma Protector Lord Setrap (via an oracle) and many other high lamas, Rinpoche obtained final confirmation of his reincarnation status from His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Rinpoche has previously spoken about his thoughts on His Holiness, which have been uploaded as a three-part set of teachings on YouTube (here, here and here!). Fundamentally however, is that due to his commitment to his vows and guru devotion, Rinpoche has always enjoyed a close relationship with his teachers, including His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
