Food Distribution

On weekdays from 10:30am to 1pm, volunteers gather at our premises (at Jalan Barat, just off Jalan Imbi) to prepare and serve food from our kitchen.

We also distribute food to the urban poor from our mobile kitchen van on weekdays. This takes places between 1:30pm and 2:30pm.

Fresh hot meals are prepared for the homeless each week

  1. Five years ago when Rinpoche came to the petshop for a little Miniature Schnauzer, I told him I was not ready for Buddhism. Five years later he dropped by again. Am I ready now? Ok, let me be honest with you. I do not know if I could hold the many vows after an initiation but I truly believe that I should at least do some Dharma work first and then see if the good Buddha would accept this lowly sentient being as his follower.

So what did I do next? My partner Elize and me found out that there is a department called the Soup Kitchen that Rinpoche started a few years ago. We thought “hey, giving food and aids to the homeless is freaking cool leh…”. So one Saturday evening, we headed to KH2 to help pack the food and later headed into the street around midnite to give them out. Every Saturday nite since then, we promise ourselves to do the same. Only something of great urgency will we excuse ourselves from the ‘midnite round.’ Dang, I nearly to used the World Cup matches as an excuse last week to ponteng but I knew Elize would have kick my sorry ass if I did.

Tsem Tulku Rinpoche, as I reflect on him during my time of solitude, is no ordinary Lama. His commitment and devotion to the Buddha’s teaching and more importantly, his unselfish struggle in spreading and embracing people who wants to practise the Dharma knows no bound. He is a light in the many dark tunnels in our lives and disturbed soul- holding the torch and saying ‘ come to me precious one and let me lead the way.’

Maybe one day when I can hold my vows without breaking them and chants mantras without straying my thoughts to ‘fried chicken and roti canai’ will I too join the rank and files of a true Dharma student.

  2. can i ask what days are available if my friends and i are interested in volunteering? there are about 11 of us.. thanks

    • Hi Michelle, you can volunteer any day of the week. On weekdays, volunteering is between 11am and 1pm, and on weekends, it is from 9pm onwards. If you do wish to volunteer, please ensure you get in touch with the team first, to let them know you’re coming so you can attend orientation and then be placed on appropriate routes :)

  3. Hi, I would like to be part of the volunteer team. I’m available on weekends for the volunteer service. Wondering when will be the next orientation session for me to attend.

    Looking forward !! Thanks. =)
