Reunion under the stars

Kechara Soup Kitchen (KSK) does not just help people by feeding them, but by getting them off the streets permanently. Most of the time, we do this by helping our clients to find gainful employment, so they can bring some dignity back into their lives by providing for themselves once again. However, our experience tells us that when working with the homeless, nothing is never out of the ordinary and assistance can show up in the most unusual way…

In one of the most touching stories involving Kechara Soup Kitchen’s (KSK) work, we recently helped to reunite two women who have been separated for 25 years. For the first time in three years, thanks to coverage by The Star, Jit Kaur will not have to sleep on the streets for another night, after reuniting with her long-lost sister-in-law.

Click the image below to read about how The Star helped to bring two people together! Please note that as the image is quite large (to ensure the text remains legible), it may take longer than usual to load.

We would like to thank The Star for their continued coverage of KSK’s events and activities, which led towards this happy reunion. We would also like to thank all our friends in the media whose publicity has helped KSK to grow to the level we are at now…850 packets of food each week!

But we want to grow bigger, and we want to help more people. As an NGO though, we can only do this with YOUR support! So help us! For further information on how you can join us in the fight against homelessness, contact our Project Director Chua Siong Woan at [email protected] or +6010 333 3260. With our new building and our ongoing regular activities, KSK’s financial resources are being stretched tight…we need all the help we can get, whether it’s with job offers, our wish list, or with donations of money, food or your time! Employment opportunities are also welcome, as most of our clients are willing and able to work…they just need YOU to give them a chance.
