KSK Penang taking shape

Kechara Soup Kitchen (KSK) has been operating in Penang for more than a year now. Every Monday and Wednesday, volunteers go out onto the streets of Georgetown, Penang to serve freshly cooked vegetarian food to our homeless clients.

Led by Patsy Gooi and her family, and with the help of some dedicated volunteers, the KSK Penang team began distributing food to Penang’s homeless in January 2010. Starting with just 15 packets of food, the team now fills 200 hungry stomachs each week.

To provide more consistent assistance to Penang’s poor and homeless, KSK Penang recently rented a shoplot in Halaman Ariffin, off Jalan Burma in Penang. Under the personal supervision of KSK President Dato’ Ruby Khong and Penang’s Center Director Patsy Gooi, the pre-war building has undergone extensive renovations, to stamp it with KSK’s signature modern concept soup kitchen, replicating KSK’s headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

Everybody is excited seeing the building slowly taking shape. In just over a month of hard work and renovations, KSK Penang will soon be ready to serve free dinners to the homeless and urban poor community in Penang.
