Distribution from our Soup Kitchen
Monday 4th – Friday 8th April 2011 @ 1100 to 1300 hrs
A total of 613 packets of food were distributed from our soup kitchen this week.
The KSK team noticed that some elderly clients will collect their food and eat it just outside our soup kitchen whenever they see unfamiliar faces. They tend to stay longer in the dining area when they see their friends.
Another trend the team have noticed is that younger clients tend to come later for their food compared to the elderly. Some of the younger clients also wait in the dining area, so that the older clients can collect their packet of food first.
Food distribution from the kitchen went smoothly throughout the week.
Distribution from our Mobile Soup Kitchen
Monday 4th – Friday 8th April 2011 @ 1330 to 1430 hrs
We distributed 300 packets of food in Kampung Bellamy this week.
Distribution in this area was an organised affair as usual, and the team had another two new clients. The total number of food packets that KSK distributes each day in this area remains at a steady 60. The team also answered questions posed by curious onlookers wondering what they were doing.
The team were also pleasantly surprised when a client informed them that she will not be collecting food from KSK any longer, because her son has asked her not to do so. According to her, he insists that she should let more needy people receive her portion. Her son supports as a contract worker.
Mobile food distribution went smoothly throughout the week.
Midnight Rounds
Saturday 9th April 2011 @ 2130 hrs
66 volunteers distributed 680 packets of food to our clients tonight.
The Dangi Wangi team reported that their regular client Rajan has been absent for the last two weeks. They were disappointed because they have been keen to meet him, to check on his identification card issue. His team will continue to search for him.
Our volunteers also reported that a client by the name of Helmi asked for money from them. Gently turn him down, they advised him to look for a job in order to earn money. However, Helmi cited that he has some personal problems to resolve before he can start working.

Over at the Maybank and Puduraya areas, the team reported that fewer clients are turning up these days. They believe it is because local authorities have been conducting raids in that area.
In Cahaya Suria, the team leader reported no problems on their route except for a sudden increase in the number of clients coming for food. Despite the expected difficulties, the team handled the situation very well, with every client queuing patiently for their food.
In Petaling Street, the team leader reported that they have three elderly clients who are only ever found at a particular bus stop later in the night. As a result, the team have to make it their last stop of the night. They also reported that they have been unable to locate the mentally disabled Indian lady who they came across last week.
Food distribution went smoothly and ended around 12:30am.
Evening Rounds
Sunday 10th April 2011 @ 1700 hrs
Nine volunteers distributed 70 packets of food in the areas of Brickfields and Petaling Jaya this evening.
At PJ Old Town, KSK volunteers were told that our regular client Mr Khairul and his friend have already moved on and are now working as lorry assistants.
Another regular client, Francis could not be found when volunteers arrived to deliver a packet of food to him. Before departing, they left a packet of food at his usual hangout area alongside his belongings. According to a regular KSK volunteer, a nearby restaurant supplies Francis with food every day, and it is paid for by a family member. The volunteer said that Francis has always been very quiet and does not pay much attention to our volunteers.
Over in Brickfields, the team reported that Mr Ronny was picked up by the Welfare Department on Wednesday. A nearby cobbler who maintains a small space along the corridor said that Mr Ronny had given up on life, and was just wasting away – upon hearing this, the team were even more happy to hear that Mr Ronny is now in safe hands.
Food distribution went smoothly.
