Distribution from our Soup Kitchen

Monday 21st – Friday 25th March 2011 @ 1100 to 1300 hrs

A total of 625 packets of food were distributed from our soup kitchen this week to an average of 125 clients per day. We usually experience higher attendance on Mondays as KAWAN, another soup kitchen in the nearby Pudu Market is not open.

The team served two new clients who came for food but initially refused to be registered. After a short conversation, the team managed to convince them to register after explaining clearly to them the reason why KSK needs their information.

Food distribution from the kitchen went smoothly throughout the week.

Distribution from our Mobile Soup Kitchen

Monday 21st – Friday 25th March 2011 @ 1330 to 1430 hrs

We distributed 293 packets of food in Kampung Bellamy this week.

At the regular distribution point by the village entrance, the team were able to speak to an Indian boy who always comes to collect seven packets of food for his family. His father works as a factory worker while his mother works as a cleaner in a nearby shopping mall, both earning very low salaries to support him and his four siblings. They live in a rundown rented house in the village and are the only Indian family there.

Mobile food distribution went smoothly throughout the week.

Midnight Rounds

Saturday 26th March 2011 @ 2130 hrs

64 volunteers distributed 680 packets of food to our clients that night.

Master Chefs from renowned restaurant Neo Tamarind and Tamarind Springs prepared 500 packets of food for the homeless and less privileged in Kuala Lumpur. They are the third of many hotels and restaurants to participate in a community project being undertaken by the founder of Malaysia International Gourmet Festival Dato’ Steve Day.

KSK President, Dato’ Ruby Khong alongside Dato’ and Datin Steve Day were present to distribute food to walk-in clients. In the meantime, KSK volunteers distributed the remaining packets of food to clients on the usual rounds.

Most of the team leaders reported that they were missing some regular clients after a raid on Friday night. One of the team leaders was informed by some of the regulars in Cahaya Suria that more and more new faces are cropping up in that area. They claim the new clients are not too friendly with them. Our volunteers also reported that Ms Halimah, a regular, was nowhere to be seen.

Team Leader for Dang Wangi reported that one of their clients, Rajan needed to replace his lost identification card but was unable to remember the number clearly. He requested for KSK’s assistance with the registration department to retrieve his number. Volunteers also reported that most of their clients were in Dataran Merdeka watching an event being held there that night. As a result of their clients not being at their usual spots, the team had to make extra rounds to look for them.

Food distribution went smoothly and ended around 12:45am.

Evening Rounds

Sunday 27th March 2011 @ 1700 hrs

Nine volunteers distributed 70 packets in the areas of Brickfields and Petaling Jaya this evening.

Mr Ronny was sleeping at the monorail station when our volunteers arrived at Brickfields. Looking weaker and weaker each week, the volunteers asked if he needs a place to stay. Mr Ronny said he is considering moving into a shelter. Volunteers also left a few packets of food for some of the clients who were sleeping including Ravi who, according to some of the regulars there, has been getting involved in more altercations recently.

The team also met Mr Lai who was waiting for food in front of a hotel. He gladly collected the food, telling the volunteers that he regretted having taken the wrong path many years ago, because it eventually led him to becoming homeless.

Food distribution went smoothly.
