Distribution from our Soup Kitchen
Monday 11th – Friday 15th April 2011 @ 1100 to 1300 hrs
A total of 583 packets of food were distributed from our soup kitchen this week.
A total of 14 Le Meridien Hotel staff came to volunteer in the Soup Kitchen on 12 April 2011. Most of them were from the banquet team and they arrived early, bringing with them precooked food prepared in their hotel. Our clients were very happy because none of them had been informed of this pleasant surprise. Many of them like the food very much and walked ‘home’ happily.
Food distribution from the kitchen went smoothly throughout the week.

Distribution from our Mobile Soup Kitchen
Monday 11th – Friday 15th April 2011 @ 1330 to 1430 hrs
We distributed 300 packs of food in Kampung Bellamy this week.
Our clients from Kampung Bellamy were delighted to receive the food from Le Meridien Hotel. One of our elderly clients was quoted as saying that she has never had the chance to taste hotel food before. She was very happy walking away with two packets of food and said that she could not wait to surprise her husband when she reached home.
Mobile food distribution went smoothly throughout the week.
Midnight Rounds
Saturday 16th April 2011 @ 2130 hrs
65 volunteers distributed 683 packets of food to our clients tonight.
Our volunteers were very happy to meet up with Rajan who told the team that his new identification card has been issued. Amidst this good news however, Gabriel, another regular client told our volunteers that both his identification card and cash were stolen a few nights ago while he was sleeping. He requested for help to have his MyKad replaced so our volunteers gave him a map to KSK, so he can make his way to our building during the week for further assistance.
Team Cahaya Suria met a church group who distributed 100 packs of nasi lemak to our clients. Speaking to their co-ordinator, the team were pleasantly surprised to learn that the group distribute food in the vicinity on a random basis. Sharing their experiences with one another, the church group in turn said that they were very inspired by how organised our volunteers are.

Team Cahaya Suria also managed to speak to a handful of clients after they finished distributing their food. Abdullah, one of their regular clients, told our volunteers that he has a house in Seremban which he wants to sell. Our volunteers also spoke to an Indian lady who, in excellent English, admitted to the team that she suffers from a drug addiction.
Elsewhere in KL, the team covering the Bangkok Bank route had problems distributing their allocation of food so they delivered their balance to Cahaya Suria. Bangkok Bank’s team leader reported that many clients were not at their usual place this week, saying that some regulars had told him the authorities had conducted raids earlier in the week.
Food distribution went smoothly and ended around 12:40am.
Evening Rounds
Sunday 17th April 2011 @ 1700 hrs
Seven volunteers distributed 70 packets in the areas of Brickfields and Petaling Jaya this evening.
As our volunteers were leaving General’s place, they saw a handicapped person and gave him a pack of food. The team also reported that they have not seen Nagalingam for almost a month. A lady who operates a food stall nearby told our volunteers that Nagalingam is now employed as an odd job worker, so he only returns very late at night.
Major road upgrading works have been taking place in the Brickfields area, and a dump-site opposite of Hotel Mexico has been turned into a passage for cars to pass by. Despite the increased traffic in the area, many of our clients could still be found at their usual locations. As the team were making their usual rounds, they were approached by a mentally-challenged man who they are familiar with. The man, who hails from Kuching, requested for food from the team which surprised them because he had always previously refused food from KSK, but would receive food for his friends.
The volunteers were also shocked to learn that their regular client, Lim had been arrested by the police because some of the area’s residents reported him to the police as a flasher. Going to his usual hangout area, they found that Lim’s clothes were strewn all over the floor and his furniture, chair and reclining chair were missing.
Food distribution went smoothly with no untoward incidents being reported.
