Celebrating Hari Raya with the Spirit of Togetherness and Muhibbah

Perak team were on the move during Raya week in Taiping and Ipoh. With the help of volunteers, we delivered some festive joy to the poor and underprivileged.

Thanks to Tesco Malaysia, the Johor Baru Food Bank team were able to distribute fresh produce to shelters and orphanages with high-priority needs. A big thank you to volunteers who spent their Raya holidays helping out! Kechara’s Food Bank relies heavily on volunteers to distribute directly to clients at sites across the country.

We were honoured to be on the streets with the Selangor Royal Family on the eve of Raya. While many others would be feasting away on the last day of Ramadhan, their hearts and souls were with the rakyat tonight. KSK volunteers and the Selangor Royal Family served over 1,200 dinners to the destitute in town tonight, very kindly sponsored by Segi Fresh.

On Sunday, 18 June, a fire broke out in a Klang Valley neighbourhood destroying over 50 homes. When the KSK distribution team got to know of this, they decided to channel the surplus food collected from Ramadhan buffets under Tengku Zatashah Idris’ Zero Food Waste campaign to help the affected families.

The following hotels and restaurants generously provided aid:

  1. Sunway Resorts & Hotel
  2. Concorde Shah Alam
  3. TPC KL
  4. Impiana KL
  5. Grand Hyatt Hotel
  6. Al-Amar Pavilion

The affected families are currently taking shelter in a multipurpose hall and awaiting further development to help them with shelter placement. It is great to know that no casualties were reported.

Private institutions are taking initiative to reduce food wastage! Many thanks to generous sponsors from TPC KL, JW Marriott, Grand Hyatt KL and Impiana Hotel KL who created fresh wholesome meals from their surplus food. KSK relies on these organisations and many others to provide the daily lunches at our Jalan Imbi centre. Reducing food wastage is not an easy task, but these organisations are stepping up to the plate.
