As part of Kechara’ initiatives to help the underprivileged community, Kechara Soup Kitchen Penang’s team recently visited Makcik Khatijah who depends on her four-year-old granddaughter, Nur, to take care of her. It is a big responsibility for a young child. Her husband passed away last October leaving her helpless and with no one to take care of her. Her son works in the market in the mornings and helps out at a friend’s burger stall at night.
Makcik Khatijah does all her daily chores from her bed. Even when she cooks, the stove will be right next to her. She receives some funding from Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat (JKM) monthly and is mostly dependent on kind donors.
Following a news article in Harian Metro about her plight, the team visited her home and gave her some food provisions. She requested for a fridge and a few days later, her wish was fulfilled when a new refrigerator was delivered to her. We would like to thank the kind and generous sponsor, Sharon, for making this possible.
