The first children’s book published by Kechara Media & Publications, A Flower Named Princess brings a lively blend of comic art and moral fable to young readers. Princess tells the story a spoilt little girl who terrorises the other children in her village and staff in her household. Her uncontrollable temper makes her the most feared person in the village. However, no one has ever had the courage to stand up to her and make her see how unpleasant she is.

One day, Princess bumps into a wise old man in the park. As usual, Princess is rude and throws a tantrum at the old man. Little does she know though, that the old man is no ordinary man. Seeing that Princess needs to be taught a lesson, the wise old man performs a little magic to teach her a lesson…

Published in collaboration with the education committee of Kechara House, Princess teaches children valuable lessons in the importance of kindness, humility and harmony with the people we live with. It is being planned as part of a series, which we hope will be used as part of the Manjushri Kids’ Class programme at Kechara House. As an individual volume, it is also a wonderful companion for any children’s classes or learning activity.

From the Scriptwriter

H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche’s idea is to craft spirituality into stories for children. In this way, the kids can begin to connect with their own spirituality from early on. What’s more important is that children are able to learn the values and virtues of life. Through stories, we can show our children what loving kindness looks like and what being spiritual is all about. If children have more exposure to good moral stories and examples, they will be inspired to embody those qualities for themselves.

In this era, the new generation of children are all very bright and intelligent. They are not lacking in skills, ideas and interests. However, what they may be lacking in are wisdom and values. Buddhism teaches compassion and wisdom as one. We hope that through these Buddhist themed children stories, we can help kids grow up into better people.

This is a recipe book of simple vegetarian dishes and more. It is a book of dietary strategies to successfully combat the drawback of modern civilization’s health ills, including cancer, diabetes and obesity. Poor eating habits and too much processed food are hardly conducive to good health. Obesity, as well as diabetes, with attendant problems is on the rise. Cancer, no respecter of status, hits at everyone, rich and poor.

“People sometimes forget to take their medication but they never forget to eat. It’s human nature. We must have our meals every single day. If the food we consume can help prevent illness, then this food is better than any kind of medicine.”

All recipes were selected based on certain criteria. Vegetables are natural medicines and this book offers a cooking perspective on them.

The book was featured on the pilot episode of Veg and the City: Two Girls and a Cookbook, screened at the book launch where a talk on vegetarian nutrition formed the core of an afternoon of healthy living.

About the Author: Gisbert Pascal Roth

A wizard of all trades without mastering one, Gisbert Pascal Roth, a Swiss based in Asia since 1994, always felt at peace visiting temples in Malaysia and found a natural connection to Buddhism many years ago. While engineering and the marketing of high-tech goods are important elements in his daily work, creativity and the urge to express it never lacked far behind. Married with three boys and a hectic, travel intensive lifestyle, the author finds balance, depth and joy in the dharma. Thus, came this book into fruition, connecting his interest for the contemporary to the Himalayan visual arts. This book combines modern, creative tools with proven ancient wisdom and spirituality. The dharma is very relevant, enriching many people’s lives and providing clear direction especially in times of our fast-paced lifestyles. This book aims to be a source to reflect upon this relevant balance of spirituality in our lives.

Vajrayogini and other Sacred Power Places in Nepal was inspired by His Eminence Tsem Tulku Rinpoche when he took 61 people on a whirlwind pilgrimage to Nepal. This book is an account of the amazing spiritual journey with each temple and holy site, beautifully captured on camera along with Tsem Rinpoche’s powerful explanations and stories. The principle pilgrimage sites which the pilgrims were privileged to visit consisted of ancient caves and temples related to the Tantric deity called Vajrayogini, the Mahasiddha Naropa and his Guru, Tilopa. There are many photographs particularly of the ancient and sacred Vajrayogini statues that have never been seen in print – in fact, most of these sites are not even mentioned in the usual guidebooks. It is hoped that this book will serve to inspire intrepid spiritual seekers who wish to make their own spiritual journey to discover the ancient world of Vajrayogini.
