From 15 to 17 April 2011, if you had been at the Smart Kids 2011 event at Putra World Trade Center, well we hoped you dropped by our booth!
Smart Kids 2011 is a very popular event among educators, businesses, parents and children. The past couple of years, over 130,000 people have attended this exhibition which showcases products, services and organisations that help children to be better equipped for life’s challenges.
The idea of Kechara participating in this event came from Han Ling of the Manjushri Kids’ Class (MKC), who wanted to seize the opportunity to promote arts and crafts and environment in the same breath. Hence the Kechara booth promoted Kechara Earth Project (KEP) and Kechara Animal Sanctuary (KAS), along with MKC’s activities. Ling was assisted by Professor Choi, Koo and Leeann, who did the setup and helped with promoting KEP and KAS.
The attraction of the Kechara booth was the arts and crafts for the kids, where they had the chance to get their hands a little messy making bookmarks, photo frames and also recycling bags…a lot of patience and creativity flowed as the volunteers worked with the children!
The crafts not only attracted children, but they also attracted educators who wanted to introduce a green and environmentally-friendly element to their curriculum. We also had many people express their willingness to contribute items to support KEP…that might have had something to do with the 1000 flyers that we handed out to the public!
At the end of the weekend, we had a little birthday celebration for Teacher Ling (as she is fondly known by her students at MKC). On behalf of everyone who had a fabulous time, we would like to extend a special thanks to Kok Yek Yee, Sixin, Freon, Cindy Chu, Nicholas Yu who came around, joined in the fun and lent a hand.
