In the evening of his birthday, Rinpoche will (most auspiciously!) confer vows to Kechara’s second group of pastors. The Pastors, founded by our Spiritual Guide are laypeople that take sacred vows, to propitiate the Gaden lineage and serve Kechara. Dressed in lay clothes yet offering Dharma advice, these pastors will bring Dharma to those seeking guidance, but who are too intimidated or reluctant to approach the ordained for advice.
His Eminence has always said that the only reason for him to attend his birthday celebration is if he can benefit others on the occasion. Creating pastors for the sake of making the Dharma more approachable to those in need of Buddha’s wisdom is one such action.
Although the concept of pastorship is relatively new to Buddhism, the vows that Rinpoche bestow on the chosen for this honor is based on an authentic lineage which stems all the way back to Buddha Shakyamuni himself. So do come and celebrate Rinpoche’s birthday with us, and bear witness to this historic occasion!
