Resourceful dog survives 6 years alone in Grand Canyon

A dog named Shaggy proved his ability to survive by living 6 years in Grand Canyon National Park. The park’s temperatures soar in the scortching summers and plummet to freezing in the winter.

Rescuers believe the dog survived partly on human handouts, although he is very shy and does not yet approach people. It appears that he lived his entire life this way before his rescue.

Shaggy is undergoing rehabilitation to try and teach him how to cope outside the wilderness and not be so afraid of life with human companionship. But it may take years to undo the emotional damage his 6 years in the wild have done to a dog that should have been treated as a pet, not dumped in a national park.
