Liaison of Tsem Ladrang

I met Rinpoche in Singapore back in 2001. It was a very refreshing experience because I never knew Dharma could be so unconventional yet maintain its essence. Through the years, Rinpoche really showed himself as an accomplished Dharma practitioner who is not bound by any conventions – that really blew away my old and persistent thinking which focused very much on outer Dharma.

After my first few encounters with Rinpoche, I began to develop some websites for Rinpoche and the Kechara organisation. In recent years, I committed myself further as Rinpoche’s personal attendant and Liaison in New Media, continuing my pursuit to spread Rinpoche’s teachings wider and further globally.

Being Rinpoche’s personal attendant means that I am able to witness real Dharma in action, both on and off the throne. I consider myself extremely fortunate, and at the same time it is also a great challenge to instill Dharma in my life 24/7.

As Rinpoche’s personal attendant I can witness real Dharma in action. It challenges me to practise Dharma 24/7. Rinpoche has blown away my old and persistent way of thinking which was very much focused on the outer rituals of Dharma.

Loh, 33
Liaison to H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche
Personal Attendant Tsem Ladrang

Back in 2001, Loh had no inkling of just how involved in Dharma he would become. As a Masters degree-holder in Engineering, Loh was working as a research engineer in Singapore when he met H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche. Rinpoche’s talk left a strong impression on him and after a few encounters with Rinpoche, Loh started developing websites for Rinpoche and Kechara. More recently, Loh has deepened his commitment to Dharma by becoming Rinpoche’s personal attendant and a Liaison of Tsem Ladrang.

When did you meet H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche and why were you attracted to Kechara? Why did you join Dharma work?

I met Rinpoche in Singapore in 2001. I was attracted to Kechara because meeting Rinpoche was a very refreshing experience – I never knew Dharma could be so unconventional yet maintain its essence. After graduating, I worked for three years before joining Dharma full-time in 2005 – throughout that time, I wanted to use my worldly expertise to spread the Dharma.

It sounds like you were inclined towards spirituality before you came to Kechara. Did you have any such inclinations?

I did have some inclinations before Kechara but did not become a Buddhist until I joined a pure-land sect during my university years. I was active with them until I met Rinpoche in 2001. Since then, I guess you could say I have spiritual inclinations! Now, I want to help Rinpoche to spread Dharma in any way I can.

As Rinpoche’s personal attendant, you must have had some incredible moments with him. What is the most inspiring thing about Rinpoche that you have seen?

I consider myself extremely fortunate to be Rinpoche’s personal attendant because I can witness real Dharma in action, both on and off the throne. It challenges me to practise Dharma 24/7. In this way, Rinpoche has blown away my old and persistent way of thinking, which was very much focused on the outer rituals of Dharma.

Being so close to the person who guides Kechara, where do you see the future of Kechara? What role do you see yourself playing in the manifestation of Kechara World Peace Centre (KWPC)?

I foresee Kechara becoming a world-class, one-stop centre for Dharma – we will preserve Lama Tsongkhapa’s teachings in its purest form. It will become a place for spiritual learning and healing, and a centre which promotes general well-being. As for myself, I will continue to share Rinpoche’s teachings with as many people as possible, especially among the Chinese-speaking community.

So are you happy to be involved in the KWPC project?

Yes, I am extremely happy! Rinpoche has dedicated many years of his life to bring Dharma to Malaysia, and KWPC will be the culmination of all of Rinpoche’s hard work. It has always been Rinpoche’s wish to preserve and spread Lama Tsongkhapa’s lineage. What could be better than an institution in Malaysia to do just that?
