Spirituality helps me directly to achieve my aspirations because it is about achieving a higher state of mind, to lessen the suffering I cause to myself out of ignorance and attachment. Spirituality is also about increasing my ability to benefit others.

Born and bred in Kuala Lumpur, Wendy Ho describes herself as an easy-going person who takes life one day at a time. Having graduated with an ACCA qualification and a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Economics from the National University of Singapore, Wendy worked in the Finance and Accounting Department of a general insurance company before joining Tsem Ladrang.

How were you introduced to Kechara and what attracted you to stay?

I already had an interest in Dharma before joining Kechara and this interest began during my university days. Then, a few years ago during Wesak Day, I came along to Kechara House with some friends. It was meant to be a casual visit but upon hearing H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche speak, I became interested and stayed.

So you had spiritual inclinations before Kechara? What kind of questions were you asking about your life?

Yes, I had spiritual inclinations before Kechara – since young, I have always been attracted to Buddhism. I used to ask myself about the meaning of life, why I was born, why people suffer – spirituality helps me to answer all of those questions.

Why do you like Dharma and Buddhism? What is it about Dharma that attracts you to join Dharma work?

Dharma provides me with the answers I need. They are answers that I can relate to and understand and, most of all, answers that I can implement to transform my life for the better. I felt I had to do something more than earn money. I joined Dharma work because I want my job to mean something and I want to share with others the benefits I have experienced.

What are your aspirations in life and how do you see spirituality contributing to the achievement of your aspirations?

My aspiration in life is to become a better person in all ways. Spirituality helps me directly to achieve that aspiration because it is about achieving a higher state of mind and to lessen the suffering I cause to myself out of ignorance and attachment. Spirituality is also about increasing my ability to benefit others.

What do you like about Rinpoche and which of his teachings has had the biggest impact on you?

I like Rinpoche’s wisdom, compassion and skilfulness. I admire his ability to continue his Dharma work enthusiastically despite uphill battles and many disappointments. As for his teachings, I can’t pick just one! They have all had an impact on me because I’ve come to realise there is no separation between daily life, spirituality and spiritual practice.
