I realised I was happy whenever I did Dharma work. I also like Kechara because it is a modern, unconventional Buddhist centre which teaches me how to become a better person without giving up what I am doing.

After working in the television industry, Kechara newcomer Howie Loh was starting to find that his work and daily life were becoming repetitive. Howie now brings his industry experience as a cameraman, editor and producer to the Kechara InMotion (KIM) team. He believes that his involvement in Kechara is helping him to find his spiritual nature and, in his own words, believes that Kechara and KIM have been a breath of fresh air in his life.

How did you come to be introduced to Kechara? Did you know someone already involved?

It was through my colleague, Han Siew Fong, who asked me one day if I would like to join Kechara InMotion on a voluntary basis; the department shoots and produces Dharma videos to spread H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche’s teachings. Without hesitation, I said yes, as I always wanted to do some volunteer work.

Having volunteered to film many Kechara activities, what is it about Kechara that attracted you to continue in your volunteering?

I feel that Kechara is like a big family where everyone is friendly and helpful. After volunteering a few times, I realised I was happy whenever I did Dharma work; I was convinced to stay on! I also like Kechara because it is a modern, unconventional Buddhist centre which teaches me how to become a better person without giving up what I am doing.

Why does doing Dharma work make you happy? What about Dharma do you like?

Dharma makes me more confident and has answered the questions I was asking about life; it has cleared any doubts I had about life and I feel like I am a better man now, with greater compassion and positive thinking. I used to wonder about the ultimate aim of life apart from having family and friends. Now, I know it’s about helping others by helping to spread Dharma.

Since the day Ms. Han talked to you about Kechara, you have met Rinpoche on a number of occasions and also listened to his talks. What do you like about Rinpoche?

Rinpoche has great compassion and does what he says. He cares for all his students, without taking gender, race, age and nationality into account. Rinpoche is also humorous and his Dharma talks are interesting and never boring. Rinpoche always gives wise words and teachings that make complete sense. That’s why I like him!

Where do you see Kechara going? What do you see in Kechara’s future and the manifestation of Kechara World Peace Centre (KWPC)?

Kechara and Rinpoche’s teachings will reach more people around the world and I see KWPC as the pride of Kechara! I will do all I can to help KWPC manifest. Through shooting and producing more Dharma videos, I hope to help promote Rinpoche’s teachings, get more people to be involved in Dharma and eventually contribute to KWPC.
