The Kechara organisation belongs to the Gelugpa sect of Tibetan Buddhism and embraces teachings that were passed down in an unbroken lineage from Buddha Shakyamuni (624-540 BC) to Atisha (982-1054), and then to Je Tsongkhapa (1357-1419).
Known to Tibetans as the Second Buddha, Je Tsongkhapa was one of the most important figures in the history of Tibetan Buddhism, having mastered all Buddhist traditions and combined the best of each to form the Gelugpa lineage. He was one of the most creative of many illustrious writers, philosophers and scholar-yogis to grace the Land of Snows.
Je Tsongkhapa also founded the illustrious Gaden Monastery, where H.E. Tsem Rinpoche comes from and of which Kechara is an affiliate of.
