A Taxi Called Home

Uncle Chan was referred to us by a lady named Catherine. According to Catherine, the 78-year-old man has been sleeping in the taxi he owns for the past two years.

Formerly a taxi driver, Uncle Chan was forced to stop driving when his cataract problem became worse. Having lost contact with his family for many years, he had no choice but to sleep inside the taxi parked in Taman Kok Doh, and relied on his kind neighbours for food and personal hygiene.

Uncle Chan was insistent on sleeping inside the taxi as he was very worried it would be stolen if left unattended during the night. According to the neighbours, he had rejected offers to help him find a permanent place to stay many times.

We later managed to convince Uncle Chan to seek treatment from the hospital for his cataracts. Unfortunately, the doctor diagnosed that his eye nerves had already been damaged and that there is no cure.

However, the good news is that Uncle Chan now has a nice place to call home where his daily needs will be well taken care of.
