Kechara Southern Jewel Chapel (KSJC) aims to spread H.E. Tsem Rinpoche’s teachings, Lama Tsongkhapa’s tradition and Dharmapala Setrap’s practice to the people in south of Malaysia.
KSJC was inspired by H.E. Tsem Rinpoche, who brought the practice of powerful Dharmapala Setrap from Gaden Shartse Monastery to Malaysia. The first Setrap chapel in Malaysia was established in Kechara House (KH), Petaling Jaya four years ago, and the birth of KSJC is evidence that Setrap is extending his reach to benefit many in the Southern region.
Many years ago, Rinpoche advised one of his long-time students, Wong Kok Thai – more affectionately known as Fat Monk – that he should build a Setrap Chapel to propagate Setrap’s practice in his home town. This would enable many people to receive the benefits of Setrap’s practice, and the endeavour could be dedicated to his family and friends.
The chapel manifested through kind sponsorship of Steven Chew, KSJC’s 1st President who offered his house to be used for the chapel. A committee was formed with Steven as the President, Alan Chan as the Vice-president, June Tang as Secretary, Grace Leu as Treasurer, & Teo Lai Seng and Wong Yen Pin as the committee members.
The Setrap statue (3ft), was ceremoniously invited from Petaling Jaya to Batu Pahat on Sunday, 23 December 2007.
The Chapel has since moved to its new premises in Skudai, in 2009.
