Recognise these faces?

Internationally acclaimed television personality Ian Wright was in Kuala Lumpur (KL) recently to shoot his new show Invite Mr Wright. Ian is most recognisable as the host of the popular travel show Globe Trekker, which saw him travelling across the continents looking for interesting content to shoot.

During his stay in KL, Ian was hosted by local comedian Joanne Kam who showed him around the city. Joanne also took the opportunity to introduce him to Kechara Soup Kitchen (KSK) and immediately, Ian wanted it as one of the highlights of his show. Back in London and before he appeared on television, Ian experienced running a community centre with his wife so he thought filming KSK would be meaningful.

Ian, together with Joanne, came to volunteer in KSK on the first day of September, and the first day we began operations in our new building. With the help of volunteers, Ian packed bags of food before distributing them to clients visiting our new building. Ian later headed out to the streets to continue to distribute food. He also managed to talk to a few clients in the process.

It was a long but happy day of filming, led by our President Ruby Khong and the KSK Committee. At the very end, Ian expressed that he was impressed with KSK and hoped that his show will help promote our work and inspire more people to come forward to lend a helping hand…and we hope so too!

If you wish to make like Ian and join us in the fight against homelessness, contact our Project Director Chua Siong Woan (siongwoan.chua@kechara.com; +6010 333 3260). With the expansion of our services, KSK’s financial resources are being stretched tight…we need all the help we can get, whether it’s with job offers, our wish list, or with donations of money, food or your time! Employment opportunities are also welcome, as most of our clients are willing and able to work…they just need YOU to give them a chance.

  1. I’m going to start volunteering locally here in the USA for a soup kitchen once I contact them. Hopefully I can bring my sister along with me too.

KSK, see what my jealousy of you all has done?!

  2. Way to go KSK!! And we love ya Ian. May your show help to create more awareness for people to participate & help sponsor food for the homeless.

  3. Good on you, Ian.

Many thanks to all at Kechara to do such good deed.
